about

It’s Friday night, around 10pm, my wife is out and the kids are sleeping… I take my old faithful west coast Sputnik Modular analogue system from the studio, and a setup to record and film.
I set it up in the kitchen, I patch it and there you go, the magic happens... almost automatically.

All you have to do is put your fingers on the keyboard and let yourself go, transported by the huge two-oscillator bass.
Dim light, a few very simple notes, rich harmonic timbres and you can feel the emotions...

It's a bit technical, I'm sorry for those who are only interested in the music itself (and you're right). Finish reading this and listen to "Sputnik Exercise 6" but note that this synthesizer is a unique and rare instrument, the brand ceased years ago and it's almost impossible to have a complete system nowadays. There is no computer, no storage, only cables to plug in, buttons to turn, and notes to play.

"Sputnik Exercise 6" is part of a series of "Sputnik Exercise" performances that I have been proposing for several years with this instrument.

For the purists and experts, the modules of this Eurorack Sputnik Modular system are very much inspired by the famous Buchla modules.

It is 100% analog except for the small extras that I have added: a (digital) quantizer, a small sequencer and a 1 to 8 steps track and the Pamela « old » Workout for clocking things.
Regarding this performance, I did not use the Batumi or the RT60 that you can see on the bottom right.

You can see the complete system (screenshot) here:

I wish you a good listening, hopefully with good headphones or a system that is suitable for low frequencies.
